CONTEMPORARY ART AWARDS 

Sandra Jule Cipriotti's contemporary paintings focus on women's empowerment. She strips bare the social norms placed on women reminding us to nurture our authentic selves.

Examining the theme of female empowerment, the works in this series explore my interest in the female subject and the space they occupy in the world.  I aim to tell a personal story inviting the viewer to lean in and look deeper, beyond social norms and constraints, and beyond our experiences and humanity, to uncover wisdom or truth. My methodology is to explore contrasts of light and shade, negative and positive space, colour, scale and medium. 

These works were created out of my passion for female empowerment born from thriving not just surviving domestic violence. Through each piece, I explore the process of dissecting and stripping away the materialism and conformities of the modern world (represented by the media/advertising and fashion labels) and experienced experientially through each piece. 

 

• High Tea, for two - Etiquette: The ladylike, homemaking objectified female identity represented by the Wedgewood cup of tea.

• Hi-Jacked - Androgyny:  The expectation to take on male characteristics to survive and thrive in a male-dominated work world represented by a contemporary overcoat.

• High Society - Fashion: The desire for success materialistically and physically and the unobtainable strive for perfectionism represented by a Carla Zampatti model. 

 

Conforming to these social norms and quest for materialism has made us invisible. Through dissection and stripping away of these, what is left is our infinite nature, our authentic selves.
